History

The Hawk Collective received the Rookie All Star Award in 2009 at the NASA/VCU Regional Competition and the Chrysler Team Spirit Award in 2011 and 2012 at the Virginia Regional Competition. In 2012, the Hawk Collective was a Quarterfinalist as Captain of Alliance #4. In 2014, at the North Carolina Regional Competition, the Hawk Collective was a Quarterfinalist as a member of Alliance #7.

Two of our former female student leaders, as well as our former lead teacher-mentor, were written about in the Trailblazers, a non-traditional online Career and Technical Educators journal for our teams women in engineering efforts. Our team also appeared on the cover of Technology and Engineering Teacher magazine.

During the past seven years, numerous students have together received over $300K in total scholarships. Three team members earned VCU/First scholarships providing four years of tuition and fees paid to Virginia Commonwealth University’s School of Engineering. Two former team members have received scholarships from Florida Tech, while BAE Systems gave three other former team members scholarships. Various other STEM-related scholarships have been awarded to students attending Christopher Newport University, Milwaukee School of Engineering, and other universities around the country.
